Independence, not Isolation
September 3rd, 2007Independents Hall – Indyhall – the co-working space started by Alex Hillman, Geoff DiMasi, and Bart Mroz officially opened on September 1 at 32 South Strawberry Street. Inspired by co-working groups in San Francisco and elsewhere, Alex led the project to create such a space here in Philly, knocking a few more bricks out of the wall that has kept us a bit hidden from the creative and techie people that give a city energy.
Alex is – to say the least – animated. He wanted to start a co-working space for web designers and others who work at home or in cafes, who like being independent but miss interaction with like-minded people. They want to be able to bounce ideas around, help and get help with problems. Interviewed by the Philadelphia Inquirer, Alex said “Working at home, I began talking to my cat, and I don’t even have a cat.” Connecting with Geoff DiMasi, owner of P’unk Avenue, a web design company, and Bart Mroz, owner of Bartek Management, a tech support/infrastructure firm, Alex located an open-floorplan, comfortable office of some 1500 square feet. With desks, chairs, internet access and a flexible rental plan, it’s open and on the way!
Stop by if you can. If you missed the opening party, here’s a small sample!
